Dear Cardiff University,

Please could you provide me with the following information as an excel spreadsheet.

For the past 10 years:

1) Where the new medical student intake at Cardiff University are from? - i.e. where they went to school - in which county?

2) Where graduating medical students go after they graduate? i.e. where they go to do their F1/F2 training - in which county/or if they go abroad?

Yours faithfully,

Rachel Evans

Dear Rachel

I am writing in response to your Freedom of Information request dated
06/05/18 in which you requested information regarding Medical student
data.

For ease of reference, I have reproduced your questions below and set out
our corresponding responses.

For the past 10 years:

1) Where the new medical student intake at Cardiff University are from? -
i.e. where they went to school - in which county?

The University does not hold this data. The School of Medicine does not
collect school data for applicants. Further, it would not be possible to
break applicant data down to county level. Many applicants include just
their town or city. If these applicants were to be excluded from the
figures provided as we do not hold county-level data, the data would be
incomplete and highly misleading. Any information held on the county /
town / city from which an applicant applies would also not correlate with
the location of their school. We receive applications from students who
enter from gap years as well as mature students and their location at the
point of application would not necessarily be the same as the location in
which they attended school. It is also likely the number of applicants
from some counties would be so small as to make individuals identifiable.

2) Where graduating medical students go after they graduate? i.e. where
they go to do their F1/F2 training - in which county/or if they go abroad?

Please find attached a spreadsheet which lists allocated Foundation
Schools for students for the years 2008/9 – 2016/17.

I trust this information satisfies your enquiry.  The University has a
Freedom of Information Complaints Procedure should you feel dissatisfied
with this response or the way in which your request was handled.
Complaints must be made in writing and must set out why you believe the
University has not met its obligations under the Freedom of Information
Act.  You may email your complaint to [1][email address] where
it will be forwarded to the Director of Strategic Planning and Governance
who will be responsible for overseeing the review.

If you remain dissatisfied following the outcome of your complaint, you
have the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for
consideration.  The Information Commissioner can be contacted at the
following address: Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House,
Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your interest in
Cardiff University. If you require further assistance please feel free to
contact me.

Yours sincerely
