Medical School Learning Outcomes

The request was successful.

Dear University of Dundee,

I would like to request all 'Learning Outcomes' or structured learning objectives given to medical students in Years 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and or 6.

This may be limited to a handbook or may be structured pdf documents that are given for each module, where applicable both are requested.

Yours faithfully,

Ben Evans

Dear FreedomOfInformation,

I would just like to clarify - is this the only structured learning outcome Dundee students receive?

For avoidance of doubt; your students upon starting each year are only issued with the GMC guidance, they are NOT given any dundee specific learning outcomes to guide them through their studies, this could be but isn't limited to a pdf document or a print out containing specific learning objectives the medical school may wish for them to establish; such as 'Describe the distribution of the facial nerve'.

If this is NOT the case then I am requesting the release under the FOIA of this information. Under the timeline of the original request as I believe you have not in good faith answered the original FOI request.

I look forward to a complete reply by the 13th of June.

Yours sincerely,

Ben Evans

Dear Mr Evans,

Having provided your clarification to colleagues they confirm that lesson specific objectives are provided to students via the Virtual Learning Environment, but these are very detailed and will run to the hundreds. The programme is designed to map to the GMC outcomes, and those are the ones that inform its design.

I wonder if the level of detail you require falls somewhere between the GMC outcomes and the lesson-specific outcomes colleagues mention? If that is the case, the University does not hold that information (per S.17 of FoI(S)A). However, I would be happy to call you to see if we do have information that would assist you in your research if that would be helpful?

Kind regards,

Alan

Dear FreedomOfInformation,

The lesson specific objectives are the outcomes that I require.

To help limit this request, I am only interested in Anatomy specific learning outcomes.

However, to my understanding the University should have a document similar to that released by Sheffield in response to this request that contains all of the learning objectives, as such it wouldn't be onerous to release.

Dear Mr Evans,

Thank you again for your additional clarification. Colleagues in the
School of Medicine confirm that Anatomy aligns with the learning outcomes
detailed in the anatomy syllabus for undergraduate medicine developed by
the Anatomical Society. Please find those attached.

I trust that this is the information you need, but please let me know if I
can be of further assistance.

Dear Alan,

Thank you for your reply.

That's very interesting as I am comparing outcomes to those published by Smith et al. (Anatomical Society), could you clarify whether the students are merely given the Smith et al. criteria, or whether they are given a specific set by Dundee, if they are different, please could you release them under the original FOI request.

Yours sincerely,

Ben Evans
