Dear Tim Maidstone,

Our Ref: FOI/850

On 15/04/2020 you made the following request for information, which has
been dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the Freedom of
Information Act 2000.

Details regarding Mobile Data Terminals

We have now completed a search for the information which you requested and
confirm that this Authority holds data relevant to your request.

The Response to your request is as follows:

Training material is provided to all operational staff and is assessed as
part of their ongoing development programme, by the line management teams
and training centre instructors.

Any changes to the operating system or configuration changes that result
in a revised look or operation to the device is delivered as update
training through E-Learning or if required face 2 Face training delivery.

The material takes the form of PowerPoint presentations supported by
written policy and procedures which clearly identify the expectations
placed on teams within West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service (WSFRS). These
documents set out the criteria for the MDTs operation and use, identifying
the defect reporting process and the responsibilities of those within that
process.

The MDTs are a Toughbook device configured to display incident information
to operational crews on the incident ground.

These policies detail the procedure to be taken when a fault is identified
in the operation of the MDT and once the fault is logged on the internal
system, will result in a notification/job sheet being raised and
automatically sent to WSFRS internal team who ascertain if this is a
hardware or software fault. All hardware faults are managed internally by
WSFRS who liaise with the product supplier to remedy these types of fault.

The software and any subsequent updates are managed by our mobilising
partners in Surrey Fire & Rescue Service (SFRS), who build and image the
devices on our behalf and subsequently manage the remedial works for any
software issues experienced by WSFRS devices.
