MBBS Medicine A100 BMAT & Interview
Dear Imperial College London,
I have some questions about the medicine admissions process, may I request the following information?
1) For the past 3 admission cycles, how many applicants with less than 2.5C in section 3 of the BMAT were interviewed?
2) For the past 3 admission cycles, how many applicants with scores below the BMAT cutoff were interviewed?
In regards to admissions cycle 2022/2023:
3) What would happen if an applicant scored above the cutoff (and combined score) in S1+S2 but missed the S3 cutoff (eg got 2A): Is their application then reviewed?
4) How is the personal statement taken into account? Is it used at interview?
5) What is the weighting of the asynchronous and live interviews?
Thank you for your time,
Yours faithfully,
Daniel Ward

Dear Imperial College London,
Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.
I am writing to request an internal review of Imperial College London's handling of my FOI request 'MBBS Medicine A100 BMAT & Interview'.
The link sent is insufficient.
A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/m...
Yours faithfully,
Daniel Ward
Dear Daniel Ward,
You have not stated in what way the link sent "is insufficient". We have reviewed your questions again and have provided comments below each.
You should also refer to the Entry Requirements section of the published information on the Medicine programme admissions page: https://www.imperial.ac.uk/study/courses...
Please note also that we are in the process of updating the FAQs to include data for 2023 entry, this should be uploaded very soon. Information that is intended for future publication is exempt from the Freedom of Information Act by virtue of Section 22 of the Act.
I have attached the previous year's version of the FAQ document in case that was the problem.
1) For the past 3 admission cycles, how many applicants with less than 2.5C in section 3 of the BMAT were interviewed?
The published information states, for 2022 entry, that applicants were required to score 2.5C as a minimum. Therefore, it follows that applicants who scored less than that were not interviewed.
2) For the past 3 admission cycles, how many applicants with scores below the BMAT cutoff were interviewed?
As above, the figures provided are the minimum scores that must be achieved.
In regards to admissions cycle 2022/2023:
3) What would happen if an applicant scored above the cutoff (and combined score) in S1+S2 but missed the S3 cutoff (eg got 2A): Is their application then reviewed?
Please refer to the Entry Requirements and the published FAQs (‘6. What BMAT scores do applicants need to achieve?’) which answer this question. As does the entry requirements information.
4) How is the personal statement taken into account? Is it used at interview?
Please refer to the FAQs, ‘4. What weight is given to the applicant’s personal statement?’
5) What is the weighting of the asynchronous and live interviews?
Please refer to the FAQs, ‘3. The interview/selection process’. Also see https://www.imperial.ac.uk/medicine/stud....
Having reviewed your request and our response, I am satisfied that the College has met its obligations under the Freedom of Information Act. If you are unhappy with the outcome of the review of your request, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Yours,
Freedom of Information Team
