MBBS Medicine (A100) Admission Statistics

We're waiting for Juan Ananth to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear University College London,

The following questions are based on application to your MBBS A100 course as a graduate.

According to the UCL website:
"There is no fast-track (four year) Graduate Entry Programme at UCL. Our graduates follow the same programme of study as the undergraduate students, except that they will complete the course within five years instead of six (Year 3 – the iBSc year – is waived)."

Please could you kindly provide information for the following:

1. What are the lowest A level and GCSE grades of successful graduate candidates who attended the A100 course?

2. What are the numbers of graduate entry applicants who applied to the MBBS A100 course for 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

3. What are the numbers of graduate entry candidates who got invited to an interview for the MBBS A100 course 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

4. What are the numbers of graduate applicants who received an offer to study in the MBBS A100 course for 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

5. What other prerequisite entry requirements remain apart from sitting the UCAT?

Yours faithfully,

Juan Ananth

Finance.FOI Requests, University College London

Dear Juan,

Thank you for your request made under the Freedom of Information Act
(FOIA) 2000.

We confirm that we hold some information of the description specified in
your request, please see our response below.

Your request and our response

The following questions are based on application to your MBBS A100 course
as a graduate.
According to the UCL website: "There is no fast-track (four year) Graduate
Entry Programme at UCL. Our graduates follow the same programme of study
as the undergraduate students, except that they will complete the course
within five years instead of six (Year 3 – the iBSc year – is waived)."

Please could you kindly provide information for the following:

1. What are the lowest A level and GCSE grades of successful graduate
candidates who attended the A100 course?

UCL does not hold this information as there are some graduate candidates
admitted to the MBBS A100 course for whom we lack records of GCSEs or A
levels. This may be due to the UCAS system not transmitting their details
to us, or due to the fact that the candidate previously studied in a
system that does not use GCSEs or A levels for example, other education
systems outside the UK.

2. What are the numbers of graduate entry applicants who applied to the
MBBS A100 course for 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

Year Number of graduate entry
applicants
2021 95
2022 58
2023 39
2024 30

3. What are the numbers of graduate entry candidates who got invited to an
interview for the MBBS A100 course 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

Year Number of graduate entry
applicants invited for an
interview
2021 17
2022 11
2023 11
2024 7

4. What are the numbers of graduate applicants who received an offer to
study in the MBBS A100 course for 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

Year Number of graduate entry
applicants who received
offers
2021 17
2022 9
2023 9
2024 <5

As you can see, we are unable to disclose the exact number of applicants
where 5 or fewer received offers in 2024.

This is because to provide the exact numbers may inadvertently lead to the
identification of these individuals. Whilst there are no personally
identifiable details within the data being withheld, that data, when
combined with other data that may already be available in the public
domain, could be used by ‘motivated intruders’ and other knowledgeable
third parties to identify the individuals concerned. Linking together
separate strands of data available in this way can indirectly lead to an
individual being identified which would breach the first data protection
principle. Further, these individuals would have no expectation that their
identities, by virtue of disclosing this type of information, would be
made known to the wider public and it would be considered unfair to do so.

As this data would be likely to become personal data, this information is
exempt from disclosure and has been withheld under section 40(2) of the
FOIA by virtue of s40(3A)(a). Section 40(2) of the FOIA allows a public
authority to withhold information under the FOIA where (i) the requested
information is personal data relating to someone other than the requester
and (ii) its disclosure would breach any of the data protection
principles.

It is for these reasons that this information is exempt under section
40(2) of the Act. As the section 40(2) exemption is absolute, there is no
need to conduct a public interest test.

5. What other prerequisite entry requirements remain apart from sitting
the UCAT?
