MBBS BSc Medicine Admission Statistics

The request was partially successful.

Dear University College London,

I am writing to you regarding your MBBS BSc Medicine (A100) course.
Could you please provide myself with an Excel spreadsheet with the following data/information from the last 2 admission cycles:
1) A Level grades (predicted)
2) A Level grades (achieved)
3) BMAT score
4) Whether an offer was made
5) Whether they were interviewed
6) How many contextual offers were given

Could you also provide me with the average GCSE grade for Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics for those who were given an offer?
Also, what was the lowest GCSE grade combination for those who were given an interview and given an offer?

Yours faithfully,

J Singh

Dear Janine Small,

I am requesting individualised data if it is possible to be anonymised.
Otherwise, a breakdown by number of grades would also suffice. For example, how many students were predicted/achieved A*AA, AAA, AAB, and less and achieved BMAT scores in ranges/

I look forward to hearing your response.

Yours sincerely,

J Singh

Dear J Singh

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request of 17th May 2020 and
clarifications of 6^th July, 12^th August and 22^nd August 2020 .
Apologies for the delay in responding to your request.

We have completed the compilation of information in response to your
request for information about for UCL’s MBBS BSc Medicine Programme.

You clarified that:

·         You would like the information for September 2019 and September
2020

·         You are willing to accept a breakdown by number of grades i.e.
how many students were predicted A*AA etc. and BMAT scores in ranges

·         You are willing to accept the actual A level grades of just
those applicants who became  students

We can confirm that we do hold some information of the description
specified in your request and this information is provided in the attached
spreadsheet.

Based on your clarifications, we will be providing the following:

·         admission statistics from the last two admission cycles

1)

a.       Predicted A level scores for MBBS applicants (for those who have
3+ predicted A levels) – as an aggregated table

b.      Predicted A level scores for MBBS applicants who received an offer
(for those who have 3+ predicted A levels) – as an aggregated table

2)

a.       Actual A level scores for MBBS applicants (for those who have 3+
actual A levels) – as an aggregated table

b.      Actual A level scores for MBBS applicants who received an offer
(for those who have 3+ actual A levels) – as an aggregated table

3)      BMAT scores achieved per test section

4)      Whether an offer was made

5)      Whether they were interviewed

6)      How many contextual offers were given

7)      Average GCSE grade for Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics for
those who were given an offer

8)      Lowest GCSE grade combination for those who were given an
interview and given an offer

As you will see within the attached spreadsheet, where the number of
applicants is fewer than 5, the information has been withheld because this
is personal data of third parties or, if linked with other personal
identifiers in the public domain, would likely to become personal data.
This information has been withheld under Section 40(2) of the FOIA by
virtue of Section 40(3)(a)(i).

Section 40(2) of the FOIA allows a public authority to withhold
information under the FOIA where (i) the requested information is personal
data relating to someone other than the requester and (ii) its disclosure
would breach any of the Data Protection principles.  In this case, we
believe that the requested information could relate to and identify
individuals and therefore would be personal data.  The disclosure of these
personal data would not be within the reasonable expectations of the
individuals concerned and it would be unfair to do so; this therefore
breaches the first Data Protection principle.

As the Section 40(2) exemption is an absolute one, there is no need to
conduct a public interest test.

for non-commercial research purposes. The information may also be used for
the purposes of news reporting. However, any other type of re-use, for
