Dear Birmingham Women ’s NHS Foundation Trust,
I am looking for the following information pertaining to your
hospital trust:
The maternal mortality rate/ratio*.
The most common causes of these deaths.
May I have the above information, where available, for the
following annual periods:
2014-2015
2013-2014
2012-2013
2011-2012
2010-2011
1994-1995
*The maternal mortality rate here to be understood as: the number
of women who die from pregnancy-related causes or causes aggravated
by pregnancy or its management either during pregnancy or within 42
days of pregnancy termination per 100,000 live births. This
excludes accidental or incidental causes of death.

Further to my acknowledgement of 11 January 2016, the Trust has reviewed
your request and is now able to respond as follows:

I am looking for the following information pertaining to your
hospital trust:
The maternal mortality rate/ratio*.
The most common causes of these deaths.
May I have the above information, where available, for the
following annual periods:
2014-2015
2013-2014
2012-2013

Response
2014-2015- 1 case. The woman had
haemophagocytosis syndrome and multi organ failure. She died from hepato
renal failure
2013-2014- Two cases. 1 x amniotic fluid embolism
and 1x septicaemia.
2012-2013- None
2011-2012- None
2010-2011- None
1994-1995- Unable to supply the information for
this period as we did not use our current system.
Please see attached for the amount of births for the years requested.
