Dear Mr Chambers,
FOI request: FOI-2749
Thank you for your request dated 14/10/2024
Our response is as follows:
The Royal Borough of Greenwich cemeteries have never undertaken burials of babies in mass graves.
We have burials in Charlton Childrens section for children from 1 month to 16 years. A section at Plumstead Cemetery, on the terrace, which was opened in the 1980's, for infants up to 1 month e.g. stillborn. A section in Eltham Cemetery has burials of children from stillborn to 16 years of age.
Still born babies were placed in unpurchased graves in some sections of our cemeteries, individually, over a 12-month period. All baby burials are recorded in our burial records and are available to view on a web site called deceased online.
If you have any queries about this correspondence, please contact me, quoting the reference number above.
If you are not satisfied with our response to your request, you can ask for an Internal Review. Internal review requests must be submitted within two months of the date of receipt of the response to your original request. If you wish to do this, please contact us in writing, setting out why you are dissatisfied.
If you are not satisfied with the outcome of the Internal Review, you may apply directly to the Information Commissioner (ICO) for a decision.
