Masons in Norfolk Borough Council

The request was successful.

Dear King's Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council,

Does the Council, including the monitoring/compliance officer hold any recorded information to show whether there are any freemasons as Councillors or staff in the council?

Does the Council hold any recorded information whether masonry is compatible or not with the Nolan principles of public life for the Council?

Could you send me the functions, job description and statutory responsibilities for monitoring/compliance officer.

Does this officer have any other titles in the council?

Has the council got a Local Code for Corporate Governance?

Are councillors and staff asked to declare their
membership of the freemasons or do any so voluntarily, and are there any minuted discussions of whether freemasonry should be declared have ever taken place?

Kind regards,

Phil Collyer

Dear Mr Collyer

Thank you for your e-mail.

I can advise the following in answer to your original queries:

1. We do not hold any information to show whether there are any Freemasons as Councillors or staff.

2. The Monitoring Officer has received information and guidance historically, but no information is currently held.

3. I attach a copy of the job description of the Monitoring Officer.

4. Our Monitoring Officer is also the Council's Legal Services Manager.

5. The Council does have a Local Code for Corporate Governance.

6. Councillors and staff are not asked to declare their membership of the Freemasons, and there are no minuted discussions.

If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Yours sincerely
