Dear Independent Office for Police Conduct,

Recently, Sal Naseem, a former regional director for the IOPC in London, claimed that the IOPC had been warned of possible public disorder relating to the investigation into the shooting of Chris Kaba by MPS Sergeant Martyn Blake.

He told the BBC: “It was fed back to us … that if we hadn’t done it [launched a murder investigation] at that time, then it’s likely there would have been a level of disorder. Things were on a knife edge.”

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I wish to see full copies of any evidence of potential disorder received by IPOC relating to the Martyn Blake investigation.

Yours faithfully,
Joseph Lloyd

Dear Joseph Lloyd

Thank you for your email in which you request evidence of potential disorder held by IOPC in support of the claim made by former IOPC Regional Director Sal Naseem.

Mr Naseem’s claim was addressed in this statement: 'IOPC statement in response to Panorama documentary ‘The Chris Kaba Shooting’: https://www.policeconduct.gov.uk/news/io...

The IOPC investigation does not include any evidence supporting this claim.

We hope you find this helpful. Please quote our request reference 5025195 in any further correspondence.
