Information Request,

Dear Mr Carroll,

Further to my acknowledgement below I have sought some assistance from my colleagues in our Estates team. To ensure that they get the relevant information to you they would like, if it is possible, a rough plan of the areas that you are interested in receiving this information for. Unfortunately the names alone are not of much help.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Dear Information Request,

Further to your request for clarification of the locations of the Churchbridge and Portway arms of the Birmingham Canal Navigations, I am not able to provide a rough plan of the areas but can give detailed descriptions of where these canal basins were located. This should be known to the local estate teams.
Previous similar requests that I have made, completed by Chris Gray have used an old map obviously held by British waterways. It is the sections of these deed maps for the two arms that I am seeking.
I believe that The Churchbridge arm is located on sheets 48 and 49 of this document with "The County of Worcester" at the top of the plan. The Churchbridge basins were located between Seven Stars Road and Churchbridge Oldbury West Midlands. SO 989892 IS AN APPROXIMATE NATIONAL GRID REFERENCE.
The Portway arm was located at the end of the Titford branch canal at Birchfield Lane Oldbury. It was abandoned in 1960 and the site is now the Lion Farm playing fields. SO 9888 IS THE LOCATION OF THE END OF THE TITFORD CANAL.
I hope this information is sufficient to process my request

Yours sincerely,

Mr Carroll

Dear Information Request,

Thankyou for the quick response to my request concerning the Churchbridge and Portway arms of the Birmingham Canal Navigations. Although the Portway arm is exactly what I was looking for the other attachments show the Churchbridge Locks at Cannock and not the Churchbridge arm at Oldbury.

I believe that The Churchbridge arm is located on sheets 48 and 49 of the document on The Birmingham Old Main Line. Could I kindly request these two sheets to complete my request?

Yours sincerely,

Mr Carroll
