1. What are the regulations governing the manufacture and sell of
Cosmetics?

2. How people in your department are involved in the inspection and
enforcement of these regulations?

3. How many firms do you inspect and regulate?

4. How often do you inspect individual firms?

5. What are the penalty for violation of these regulations?

6. How much did you receive in penalties and fines in each of the
last 5 years?

The safety and labelling of cosmetics is covered by the EC Cosmetics
Directive (76/768/EEC)

appropriate, with Manufacturers

· Investigation of complaints

· Provision of business advice

· Retail and other premises inspection within risk based planned
intervention programme

· Planned Project work when appropriate

3. How many firms do you inspect and regulate?

· 2 manufacturers

· 250-300 other premises (estimated)

4. How often do you inspect individual firms?

· Manufacturers at approximately12-24 month intervals, or
earlier if enquiries received and appropriate to do so.

· Other premises inspected as required according to risk and/or
when enquiries arise.

5. What are the penalty for violation of these regulations?

Cosmetic Products (Safety) Regulations 2008

Penalties for contravention of the Regulations 16, 17 and 19 are, on
summary

conviction, imprisonment for not more than 6 months or a fine not
exceeding £5000,

or both. For Regulations 10, 11, 14 and 16 (1) (i), the maximum fine is
the same, but

imprisonment cannot exceed 3 months.

6. How much did you receive in penalties and fines in each of the

last 5 years?

No penalties or fines were received over the last 5 years.
