In relation to Management Training I would respond as follows:

 

2. Summary/title of Management Training undertaken (please indicate
whether certified/accredited or in-house) within past 5 years for each
of the following:

 

Management and leadership development at the University is primarily
delivered in-house and is non-accredited, with support from external
expertise as appropriate.  Senior team members are required to attend
all relevant management and leadership development events provided by
the University.  A team approach is taken to the development of senior
staff, with staff attending development activity together, including the
Vice-Chancellor.  In 2013, the University of Wales Trinity Saint David
merged with Swansea Metropolitan University and a new senior team
structure was formed.

 

The senior team at the University includes:

i)                    The Vice-Chancellor

ii)                   Deputy Vice-Chancellors

iii)                 Chief of staff

iv)                 Pro Vice Chancellors

v)                  Deans

vi)                 Directors of support departments

 

1)      Pre-merger: In-house strategic leadership development events
2013 – 2015:

 

The University’s annual ‘Staff Development Week’ incorporated
development opportunities for the senior team and included:

·         University’s strategic planning processes

·         Health and Safety (risk management)

·         Preparing for change

·         University’s policy requirements

·         Equality and Diversity

 

2)      Post-merger: In-house strategic leadership development events
2015 – 2017:

 

March 2015 – senior team leadership conference: ‘Managing and Leading
Change’

Sept 2015 – senior team strategic planning and development event as part
of the University’s annual Strategic and Operational Planning Programme

Feb 2016 - following on from the March event four identified priorities
were used as the basis for participative workshops with the senior team
focused on; systems and planning, brand, people, student experiences

Sept 2016 - senior team strategic planning and development event as part
of the University’s annual Strategic and Operational Planning Programme.

Dec 2016 – senior team leadership conference: ‘Leading in Complex
Business Environments’

March 2017 – senior team strategic planning and leadership development
event ‘Strategic narratives and values’

 

3)      In addition the senior team were required to attend the
University’s Core management skills development programme (2015/16),
workshops included:

 

·         Appraisal for Appraiser

·         Appraiser explained for the appraise

·         Managing the risks of the Equality Act 2010

·         Managing performance and its role in motivating and engaging
employees

·         Managing conflict positively and difficult conversations

·         Discipline and Grievance handling

·         Recruitment and Selection
