Dear Rebecca
Your information request (1560)
Thank you for your information request of 26 January 2023. Please find
answers to your questions below.
1. How many malicious emails have been successfully blocked/detected?
We only hold data for the period February to December 2022. We blocked
740,415 emails during this time.
2. If possible, please provide a breakdown of figures by malicious email
type, e.g. spam, malware, phishing, and ransomware.
Most emails are rejected for reasons relating to the sender/their IP
address so it is not possible to determine how many are malicious. We do
not hold this information as a result.
3. What percentage of malicious emails were opened by staff?
No information held.
4. What percentage of malicious links in the emails were clicked on by
staff?
No information held.
5. How many email accounts/employees are there within your department?
We have 1130 email accounts on our system – this includes individual
users, plus shared resource mailboxes. In addition, our headcount was 585
as at 31 December 2022.
I hope this response is helpful. However, if you are not satisfied with
the way we have handled your information request, you may appeal our
decision which will then be investigated through an internal review. You
may request an internal review within 40 working days from today’s date.
If you are not content with the outcome of such a review, you have the
right to refer any complaint directly to the ICO (contact details are
available at: [1]www.ico.org.uk). The ICO will usually expect you to have
first exhausted our own complaints procedure before raising any concerns
with them.
Yours sincerely
