Dear British Tourist Authority (VisitBritain),
Please find below my FOI request regarding malicious emails sent to the
department.
The date range for the requests is from 2018 to present day. The data
shall
include a breakdown by year and by individual departments (e.g. separate
departments, agencies, or public bodies within the main government
agency), if
applicable.
1. How many malicious emails have been successfully blocked? 9,113,480.
2. What percentage of malicious emails were opened by staff?
3. What percentage of malicious links in the emails were clicked on by
staff?
In answer to questions 2 and 3 above – we cannot quantify the % but as we
have not to date suffered any damage. We therefore believe we have
successfully blocked all that could cause damage.
4. How many ransomware attacks were blocked by the department? See
response to Q1 (above) ransomware emails are not tracked separately to
malicious emails.
5. How many ransomware attacks were successful? 0.
Yours faithfully,
Rebecca Moody

Good afternoon,
Thank you for your prompt response.
Can I just clarify that the figure of 9,113,480 is from 2018 to present? If so, is it possible to provide a breakdown by year, please?
Yours sincerely,
Rebecca
Dear Rebecca,
Please see below our response in red to your questions raised on the 20th
December 2021.
Can I just clarify that the figure of 9,113,480 is from 2018 to present?
Yes.
If so, is it possible to provide a breakdown by year, please? We have
considered the costs of compliance with this request and consider them
above the applicable limits and hence we will not be providing a
breakdown.
Many thanks,
