Dear Mr Tye,
Re: Freedom of Information request - Male Primary School Teachers

Thank you for your request for information, which was received on 4 November. You requested
the number of male primary school teachers broken down into local authority level and how
many new
male primary school teachers have started work in the 2011-12 academic year. I have dealt
with your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (“the Act”).

A copy of the information that we have available is attached and gives the numbers of male
teachers in publicly funded nursery and primary schools at local authority level from the
Autumn 2010 School Workforce Census. Statistics from this data source were published on
April 20 2011, which is the latest date for which school workforce information is available
(please follow this link to see our latest Statistical First Release on the School Workforce
in England:

[1]http://www.education.gov.uk/rsgateway/DB...). The numbers of female
teachers and those with gender not known are given for comparison.

I’m sorry to say that the number of new male primary school teachers starting work in
academic year 2011-12 will not be available until spring 2013 as the figure can only be
calculated after the end of that academic year.

The number of entrants for the 2010-11 academic year is not yet available as this
information is currently being collected as part of the Autumn 2011 School Workforce Census.
This should be available next Spring provided we are content with the reliability of the
figures that we have obtained from this new data source.

I am no expert in copyright but the information that has been given to me in this FOI ... Can I use it in a blog post for my personal blog?

It's Crown Copyright, so you're free to either use it under the OGL (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/doc/o...) or under the "fair dealing" part of the Copyright, Designs & Patent Act 1988
(http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1988...) which covers criticism, review or news reporting.

Mentioning that the information was released by the DfE, and linking back to this FOI request as the source should be enough.
