Maintenance of Directly Managed Moorings

Simon Robbins made this Freedom of Information request to British Waterways Board

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was partially successful.

Dear British Waterways Board,

In your recently published annual report for 2010/11 (on page 16) you state that, "An extensive audit of our directly managed mooring sites was completed to establish and prioritise future maintenance work."

Please would you provide a copy of the final report and any associated data, in particular the estimated value of the works identified therin, in sufficient detail to enable individual moorings customers like myself to identify the maintenance assessments you have undertaken for our individual mooring sites, showing the repairs you have identified as in need of attention and the timescales in which you propose repairing relevent items.

Yours faithfully,

Simon Robbins

Information Request,

Dear Mr Robbins,

I am writing further to my acknowledgement of 22nd July and your request for information of 21st July.

I understand that you would like to have the following information related to the audit of directly managed mooring sites referred to in our Annual Report and Accounts 2010/11:

“a copy of the final report and associated data, in particular the estimated value of the works identified therin, in sufficient detail to enable individual moorings customers like myself to identify the maintenance assessments you have undertaken for our individual mooring sites, showing the repairs you have identified as in need of attention and the timescales in which you propose repairing relevant items”

The extensive audit was undertaken to provide the moorings team with a national database of the assets, structures and facilities that are present at each BW directly managed mooring site. The information was collected over a period of time and involved visits to every directly managed mooring site in order to gather the data.

This is the first time that a complete database of this information has been collected and the moorings team will use it when making future decisions on proactive maintenance programs on a national contract basis rather than the current reactive approach to repairs. In addition this management information will assist when taking national decisions on investment.

The purpose of the audit was not to identify individual site repairs or timescales. To date no financial calculations or timescales have been made based upon this audit.

I have attached an extract of the data which relates to Kensal Green to give you a better understanding of the outcome of the audit on a national basis.

If we haven’t reasonably met your expectations in relation to a request for information or you believe we may not have acted in accordance with the above legislation you should write in the first instance to Kelly Radley Head of Customer Relations, 64 Clarendon Road, Watford, Herts WD17 1DA outlining your concerns and asking for a review to be undertaken. Your correspondence will be acknowledged and a review of your case will be undertaken by one of British Waterways’ directors.

Should you remain unsatisfied by the response you receive you are able to contact the Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF www.ico.gov.uk/Global/contact_us.aspx.

Yours Sincerely,

Dear British Waterways Board,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of British Waterways Board's handling of my FOI request 'Maintenance of Directly Managed Moorings'.

My original request was for all information held for all moorings sites and not for a single site. Please would you provide the complete data sheet and not just a single line extract.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address:

Yours faithfully,

Simon Robbins
