Lost mail/incorrect delivery
Dear Royal Mail Group Limited,
Having looked at the figures for lost mail etc etc
And was wondering do these figures include
1) letters delivered to the wrong address and the letter is NOT returned to Royal Mail but instead binned?
For clarity if Royal Mail delivery a letter meant for someone else to my address in error and I just throw it in the bin is that letter counted as lost?
2) how do Royal Mail know if a letter goes missing or is lost if nobody reports the letter missing
Yours faithfully,
Patrick Moloney
Dear Mr Moloney
Thank you for your email in which you request information regarding complaints about lost mail. You have requested this information under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Following the flotation of Royal Mail on the London Stock Exchange in October 2013, it is no longer subject to the Freedom of Information Act. Royal Mail was previously subject to the Act because it was wholly owned by the government. However, now that the government has sold its shares in Royal Mail, this is no longer the case. Therefore, we are no longer obliged to respond to requests for information under the terms of the FOI Act.
If you have any concerns regarding Royal Mail's products and services it would be necessary to raise these with our Customer Service Department: https://personal.help.royalmail.com/app/....

Dear FOI,
So is there no way to obtain this information
1) if a letter is delivered to an incorrect address and binned instead of being returned to sender is it considered lost/missing by Royal Mail
2) if a letter is not reported missing or lost how do Royal Mail know a letter is missing or lost
This is not a complaint or a freedom of information request it is asking for clarity and it is just simple questions with simple answers really because I would have thought there was no way for Royal Mail to know as if nobody reports the letters lost or missing nobody knows the letter is lost or missing and if people don't "return to sender" letters again nobody knows about the letters?
So if not as a freedom of information request is there an email I can have to ask these simple questions about information shared by Royal Mail publicly online anyway
Thanks
Yours sincerely,
Patrick Moloney
