PeopleFOI, Birmingham City Council

Dear Jo

Freedom of Information Act 2000 – Request for Information

I am writing in respect of your recent enquiry for information held by the
Authority under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Please find the answers to your questions:

I'm looking as part of a study programme for myself details of all
children in your area that are looked after children for the years 2015 to
2016 both years included to today’s date or the end of the year Why and
how long they have been looked after children and finally why do the
children go out of the area and what areas do you send them too.

Please see response below:

Please find attached link  to Local Authority CIC on 31^st March and
Admission & Discharges in the financial year:
 [1]https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics....

Within the LA tables ([2]Local authority tables: SFR41/2016) on LAA6
worksheet gives placements on 31^st March under & over 20 miles in and out
LA boundary so the data sets are from the same source of published
information. There is no 50 mile information.

The reason placements go out of area is because we go where available
placements are locally and sometimes these are nearby but in a
neighbouring Authority boundary (especially foster placements) or we need
specialist residential placements to meet a child’s behavioural or
disability needs and these placements are only available further afield.

Whilst we have undertaken a thorough search of the information held by
Birmingham City Council, it may be that, due to the size and amount of
information held by Birmingham City Council, some information has been
inadvertently missed. If you have any information which may assist us in
determining or locating any missed information, we would be grateful if
you would contact us with details of this information, so that we can make
a further search.

Where Birmingham City Council is the copyright holder of any information
that may be released, re-use for personal, educational or non-commercial
purposes is permitted without further reference to the City Council. Where
the re-use is for other purposes, such as commercial re-use, the applicant
should notify the City Council in writing to seek approval or agree terms
for re-use.

If you are not satisfied with the decision, you may ask for an internal
review by officers not involved in the handling of this original request.
