foi (EAST OF ENGLAND AMBULANCE SERVICE NHS TRUST),

Dear Andrew,

Further to your email on the 8th October 2016, please find the Trust’s response below. Your request has been allocated the following reference: 8009, please quote this reference in any future correspondence with the Trust.

Under the Freedom of Information Act, I would like to request a copy of your lone or solo worker policy if you have one. I would also like to know your organisations common working practice when it comes to lone workers entering tower blocks both during daylight and evening/overnight.

Please note, the Lone Worker Policy can be found on the Trust’s website: http://www.eastamb.nhs.uk/policy-librari.... As this information is publicly available the Trust is not obliged to provide this again and will be applying exemption s.21 of the Freedom of Information Act to this request.

The Trust does not have a specific policy on entering a particular premise, such as a tower block. However given the nature of the work done by our front line staff, they will be called to attend to patients at a number/variety of sites and it would be unrealistic to expect the policy to look at each and every scenario. In the event staff have to enter any premises, the Trust would expect that the employee would:
· Undertake their own dynamic risk assessment on approach to and during attendance at any patient/work/incident in accordance with their training
· Consider their own safety first and if in doubt, contact the relevant EOC/Control Centre/hub for further information, advice and assistance before proceeding.

I am obliged to advise you that if you are dissatisfied with the Trust’s response to your request you have a right to complain to the Trust and should set out your concerns to the Freedom of Information Officer, EEAST, Hospital Approach, Broomfield, Chelmsford, Essex, CM1 7WS or by email to [East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust request email]. If you remain dissatisfied following this, you have a right under Section 50 of the FOIA to seek a determination from the Information Commissioner on whether the Act has been properly applied by the Trust. For more information, please see www.ico.gov.uk.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any further information.

Kind regards

FoI Officer
