Dear FOI,
Thank you for your speedy repsone
Sorry if I did not make this clear enough in my original post but I was hoping to get actully copies of the timetable books as opposed to electronic versions
Yours sincerely,
Jack M
Dear Jack M,
Thank you for your further email.
The documents in question are hundreds of pages in total and given this
fact we refer you to section 11(4) of the Freedom of Information Act where
it states “Subject to subsection (1), a public authority may comply with a
request by communicating information by any means which are reasonable in
the circumstances”. We do not consider it reasonable in this instance to
now print these large documents for you, and post it, when this exact
information can now be supplied electronically.
If you would like this information as hard copy it will be necessary for
you to print the documents out.
Yours sincerely

Dear Transport for London,
Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.
I am writing to request an internal review of Transport for London's handling of my FOI request 'London Underground Timetables'.
It was claimed that the timetables would have to be printed but i know they have them for issue to drivers. An electronic version is of no use to me as i have difficulties reading large documents on screen. I would even be willing to collect the timetables from an office
A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address:

Yours faithfully,
Jack M

Dear Jack M
Request for internal review
Thank you for your request for an internal review which was received by
Transport for London (TfL) on 29 February 2012.
You have stated that you are dissatisfied with the handling of your
request for information under the Freedom of Information Act.
The review will be conducted by an internal review panel in accordance
with TfL’s Internal Review Procedure, which is available via the following
URL:

Every effort will be made to provide you with a response by 29 March.
However, if the review will not be completed by this date, we will contact
you and notify you of the revised response date as soon as possible.
In the meantime, if you would like to discuss this matter further, please
do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours sincerely

Dear Jack M
I am contacting you concerning your request for an internal review of the handling of your request under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act. I am sorry that I have not been able to get back to you sooner.
The review has determined that the original response was appropriate, given that you had not originally expressed any preference for hard copy or electronic information and that there was no breach of the FOI Act. The view also noted Mr Hill's email to you of 29 February, in response to the first email in which you requested hard copy information, and considered that it was correct to cite section 11(4), which refers to public authorities using reasonable methods to communicate information, and to note that it should be possible for you to print out the documents.
However, the review panel did also consider that it would be appropriate to check with you whether you are in fact able to print these documents. If you are unable to do so, we would appreciate it if you could explain this. However, since the requested information has already been provided to you in electronic form and in view of the time, effort and expense that would be involved in printing and posting such large documents, it is likely that they would have to be collected.
If you are not satisfied with the outcome of the request and this review, you can refer the matter to the independent authority responsible for overseeing the operation of the Freedom of Information Act, at the following address:
Information Commissioner’s Office
Wycliffe House
Water Lane
Wilmslow
Cheshire SK9 5AF
A complaint form is available on the ICO’s website (www.ico.gov.uk)

Dear Sloane Peter,
Many thanks for the response
One of the main reasons for asking for the documents in a printed form is that I do not have the printing facilities within my house or locally to print them out. I apologise for not making that clear in the original request.
If the timetable booklets could be made available in the printed form that are issued to the drivers then I would be more than willing to come and collect them in person to avoid you the cost associated in person which I would not want you to have to do. I would also willingly accept any old timetable booklets that you have lying around that are out dated and of no use to you anymore
Yours sincerely,
Jack M
I am now out of the office and shall be returning on 1 May, when I shall
be able to respond. If your query is urgent, please resend it to
[email address] or to [TfL request email]. Thank you
Dear Sloane Peter,
It has now been nearly 6 weeks since I emailed you regarding paper copies of the current London Underground working timetables for all the lines and you are still yet to reply to me which I am not best pleased about
Why have you not been back in touch since? I know you was out of the office till the 1st May and there is no problem with that at all, but it is now the 27th and still nothing
Please reply asap
Many thanks
Yours sincerely,
Jack M

Dear Sloane Peter,
Thank you for your reply this morning. That is fine. I understand you have probably been busy with more imprtatn situations which is understandbly
Just to confirm, you will be printing copies of each of the current working timetables for each of the underground lines in the booklet form as issued to the drivers?
I previously mentioned about taking any old editions that you have - is that possible too?
Look forward to hearing from you soon
Yours sincerely,
Jack M
Dear Jack M
Thank you for your email. I can confirm that the printed copies have arrived this morning and are ready to be disclosed to you. I should also clarify that, while these are printed copies, they are not in the same booklet form as is issued to drivers - this has been printed off specially for you, in accordance with your stated preference for a hard copy but we don't have spare copies of the bound version and the provision of this hard copy does fulfil our obligations under FOI. I would be grateful if you could let me know whether you wish to collect these or have them posted to you. If you wish them to be posted, I will need your postal address. However, in view of the fact that all correspondence concerning this request will automatically be posted on the What Do They Know site, you may prefer to contact me using the details below in order to provide your address, if this is what you wish.
I have also checked regarding your other query for out of date copies, and I can confirm that there aren't any spare printed copies that are not needed, as suggested in your request. We do retain some bound out of date timetables for reference purposes or for display in the London Transport Museum - you can contact them or visit to arrange a viewing and they may also be able to make copies. However, I would note that most of the out of date copies, whether within the Museum or elsewhere, are not held electronically so new copies cannot simply be printed - it would require page by page photocopying, for which we would have to levy a charge per page.

Dear Sloane Peter,
Many thanks for the reply
It really dosen't bother me picking them up - depends where I will have to go - I assume the TFL head office in Central London - if so that is fine. I wouldn't want you to waste money posting them out just for me considering the fact you have already done me a favour!
With regards to the old timetbales, i didn't mean old old, i mean for example, the recent editions that may just have been replaced for the new working timetables on the line.
Yours sincerely,
Jack M
Dear Jack M
Thank you for getting back to me. I can confirm that you can come and collect them from Windsor House on Victoria Street. You can ask the reception staff to call me (on internal extension 64912) and I will come down with the information. Alternatively, if I am unavailable, they could try my colleague Ida Harris on 63222. With regard to the expired timetables, I am advised that there aren't any printed versions available, as only a very limited stock is ever printed in the first place. However, we may hold some very limited number of out of date timetables in a digital format, which we may be able to have printed if you require.
Yours sincerely

Dear Sloane Peter,
Again, thank you for the quick response
I can come and collect them from the said location on Friday around 12pm. Please let me know if this is a convenit time for yourself
With regards to the old timetable versions it would be great if these can be printed too
Just to confirm one final time, on firday, I will be collecting a copy of each of the current WTT for each line as well as some previous editons at no cost
Yours sincerely,
Jack M
Dear Jack M
Thank you for your response. I can confirm that 12pm on Friday should be fine. However, I should clarify that I can't at this stage confirm whether we actually have electronic copies of the old timetables that could be printed as I need to check with a colleague who won't be available until next week. However, I will let you know as soon as I find out (strictly speaking this should have been handled as a new request given that you didn't originally ask for the out of date timetables, but I've tried to deal with this along with the review in the interests of expediency). If we don't have the out of date timetables in electronic format, then the only option would be the page by page photocopying that I mentioned previously, with its attendant costs. I can confirm that there will be no cost for the information that we have printed so far, and nor will there be a charge if we do still have electronic copies of the old timetables that we can print from.
Yours sincerely

Dear Sloane Peter,
Thats great!
No problem, if you managed to have copies of the old timetables I can always come back at a later date to collect them from you or they can be posted (which ever is easiest for you!)
Once again many thanks for all your help with regards to sourcing copies of these timetables for me. Very greatful indeed!
Many Thanks
Jack M
Dear Jack M
I am contacting you again as I'm afraid that I've become aware that neither Ida nor I will be around on Friday. However my colleague Matthew van der Waals should be in the office and is aware that you will be attending Windsor House at 12pm tomorrow. His direct dial line is extension 63062.
