London Overground: Planned New Bermondsey railway station

The request was partially successful.

Dear Transport for London,
I would like to know if New Bermondsey (Surrey Canel Road) railway station is actually going to be built once major development surrounding the station has been constructed. Passengers haven't been consulted about the plans for the New Bermondsey area.

The Barking Riverside area has heavily had public consultations more than this area. Why haven't the New Bermondsey redevelopment plans been suggested for an public consultation. We (public) haven't heard any kind of plans for the area since 2014/2015.

Yours faithfully,
B.Edwards

Dear Mr Edwards

TfL Ref: 1568-1718

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 21
September 2017 asking for information about the New Bermondsey Overground
station plans.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of
the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can
confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked: I
would like to know if New Bermondsey (Surrey Canal Road) railway station
is actually going to be built once major development surrounding the
station has been constructed. Passengers haven't been consulted about the
plans for the New Bermondsey area. The Barking Riverside area has heavily
had public consultations more than this area. Why haven't the New
Bermondsey redevelopment plans been suggested for an public consultation.
We (public) haven't heard any kind of plans for the area since 2014/2015.

Planning permission for the development of the area round New Bermondsey
(Surrey Canal Road) station was granted subject to conditions and a legal
(Section 106) agreement which requires, among other things, the developer
of this site to pay the station construction costs on commencement of
their development. This permission was granted in 2012 to Renewal although
as the permission runs with the land, the scheme could be implemented by
another party who would still be required to comply with the conditions
and legal obligations attached to the permission.

TfL is not able to confirm when the station will be built as this will
depend upon when the developer commences work on the site and thus
triggers the payment obligation. However we would expect the delivery of
the station to take a similar period as construction of the first phase of
the development and thus the station would be complete in time to serve
the first occupiers of the scheme.

Please contact the London Borough of Lewisham regarding details on
consultation on proposals for the area: [1]https://www.lewisham.gov.uk.
They are the relevant local planning authority. We already have powers to
build the station subject to the approval by the Council of certain
specific details. It would be for the Council to decide if and how they
consulted on these. However applications would not be made until the
developer funding for the station was confirmed.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable
to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to
appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would
like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
