Dear Glasgow Caledonian University,

Can you tell me how long is the lease for?
Can you tell me how many students do you have?
Can you tell me how many do you plan to have in the future?
Can you tell me what are the financial and business risks considering that London is full of higher education providers?

Yours faithfully,

Abdul Hai

Dear Mr Hai

I refer to your request for information. The University's response is given below.

Can you tell me how many students do you have?
274 students (2017/18)

Can you tell me how many do you plan to have in the future?

The University competes with other universities, both locally, nationally and globally for students. By providing the information that you have requested for future numbers, this would give an indication of the level of future budgets in this areas. Hence the University considers that the information requested is exempt from disclosure by virtue of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 Section 33(1)(b) Commercial interest and the economy – that the disclosure of the information would, or would be likely to, prejudice substantially the commercial interests of any person, including those of the University. The University needs to be able to compete in a competitive market in order to secure maximum commercial benefit for the University. This exemption requires the University to assess whether the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in maintaining the relevant exemption. The University believes that the public interest lies in the University being able to compete with other University’s to secure maximum income from students.

Can you tell me what are the financial and business risks considering that London is full of higher education providers?

The University does not hold information with which to respond to this question.

Please also find attached a review notice setting out the steps you may take if you are not satisfied with the response provided to your request.

If there are any questions in relation to this request, please contact the University at [Glasgow Caledonian University request email]

Yours sincerely

Jean Ash
