London Buses driver behaviour - complaints and prosecutions

I wish to know:

The number and type of complaints about London Buses and their drivers for each year over the past five years.

The type and severity of sanctions available to the companies concerned where a complaint has been made about driver behaviour in the same time period.

The number and type of such sanctions that have been taken in the same time period.

The number of complaints which were not followed up, or for which no action was taken in the same time period.

The number and type of legal driving penalties (fixed penalty notices or prosecutions) which have been incurred by London Buses in the same time period (ie - speeding, box junction, dangerous/reckless driving, traffic light, parking offences) and the routes on which these occurred.

Dear Mr Herman

Thank you for your e-mail received by Transport for London (TfL) on 19
April 2011 asking for information about complaints made against bus
drivers.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 and I can confirm that TfL does hold some of the
information you require.

Please find attached the number and type of complaints about London Buses
and their drivers from 2005 until 14 April 2011. Please note that in
November 2008 a new system was used to record complaints and therefore the
categories used to classify the complaints also changed.

Bus drivers are not TfL employees, and therefore complaints regarding them
are passed to the relevant bus operating companies to deal with as
appropriate. We therefore do not hold information regarding the number of
complaints which were not followed up, or for which no action was taken.

Similarly, we do not hold information regarding sanctions available to the
bus operating companies when a complaint has been made about driver
behaviour, or the number and type of driving penalties which have been
incurred. This information would be held by the various bus operating
companies who provide bus services in London on behalf of TfL.
