February 2014.   We have now considered your request as set out below. 

 

You asked:

1)      Do you have a Climate Change Adaptation Strategy and/or Policy (or
similar)?  If so please attach.

2)      Has this document been adopted by Council or Cabinet (or similar),
if so, when? 

3)      Has a Councillor been assigned to champion this Strategy/Policy
(or similar), if so, who?

4)       Is the strategy/policy (or similar) supported by an
action/programme/project plan? If so, please attach.

5)      Is this plan delivering on time and to budget? 

6)      What are those timescales and budget?

7)      Are progress reports provided to Cabinet/Council (or similar), if

1)      Merton Council’s first Climate Change Strategy (2009-2012) is
available via the Merton Council website at:

The refreshed Climate Change Strategy (2014-2017) is currently in draft
form. This is awaiting submission to Cabinet following review and
recommendations arising from the Council’s Scrutiny Review of Climate
Change and the Green Deal.

Subject to approval at the next Scrutiny Review meeting - to be held in
March 2014, the draft Strategy will be made available via the Council’s
website at the above link.

2)      The Climate Change Strategy (2009-2012) was adopted in March 2009.
The refreshed draft Climate Change Strategy (2014-2017) will be included
on the forward plan for the Cabinet meeting on 30 June 2014.

3)      Councillor Andrew Judge, Portfolio Holder for Environmental
Sustainability and Regeneration, is the lead for the Climate Change
Strategy.

4)      A table of actions detailing the activities to be delivered is
included within the Climate Change Strategy (2009-2012) and will be
included in the updated Climate Change Strategy (2014-2017).

5)      N/A - the refreshed Climate Change Strategy is awaiting adoption.

6)      The updated Climate Change Strategy will run from 2014-2017. Each
action has an individual timescale for delivery within this period.

There is no specific budget for the delivery of actions included within
the Climate Change Strategy. Projects will utilise resource already
allocated in the planned programme, unless otherwise specified.

7)      Progress reports on the Climate Change Strategy will be provided
to the Council’s internal Climate Change Steering Group on a quarterly
basis. The meetings are structured thematically in accordance with the
subdivisions of the Climate Change Strategy. Progress updates will
commence once the new draft Strategy has been adopted by Council.

A review of the Climate Change Strategy (2009-2012) was undertaken in 2012
and is attached.
