Our response

The provision of desktop computers and laptops forms part of a Strategic
Partnership agreement that Sandwell MBC has with BT Global Services. Under
the terms of this agreement, the Council's entire desktop estate is
refreshed on 5-year cycle. However it is possible for individual Managers
to procure such equipment outside of this refresh cycle if they have a
business need to do so. The spreadsheet attached contains details of all
such equipment that was purchased during 2012. This contains a total of 72
such devices at a total purchase cost (inc. peripherals, warranties,
maintenace and support) of £45,105.02.

In relation to desktop printing, Sandwell MBC no longer utilises such
devices, but rather uses Multi-Function Devices (MFDs) under a Managed
Print service with Xerox (this is also part of the Strategic Partnership
agreement with BT). Under the terms of this service, all MFDs are leased
from Xerox and we pay a 'price per click' charge that covers all
consumables, including toner cartridges, paper, etc.). Therefore we have
not purchased any such items in the last 12 months.
