Local authorities duty to consult.

G Duggan made this Freedom of Information request to Welsh Government

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear Welsh Government,

Can you please provide me with the following information under the
Freedom Of Information Act 2000.

I would like to request all information held relating to the suspension of the right to buy in Swansea.

We strongly believe that Swansea council DID NOT conduct an adequate consultation.
The process is flawed and has in effect breached the rules of natural justice. The local authorities actions were not reasonable. We were not made fully aware of the hugely significant changes in the policy and approach of the Local authority which has resulted in us losing our rights to purchase our own home.

Swansea council applied for suspension due to a shortage in houses in the area, however, during 2010- 2015, 127 homes were sold under the RTB scheme in Swansea, including the "spike" period prior to suspension...yet as of 1st March 2017, according to Statswales Swansea council have 417 EMPTY properties, so much for a shortage of houses! That is a considerable amount of EMPTY houses..in comparison to how many were sold!

Land in the area is being sold to big developers instead of the council building much needed housing on.

Yours faithfully,

G Duggan

Welsh Government

Welsh Government

For the Attention of G. Duggan

To update you on the position of your Freedom of Information request. On
23 July you refined your request to ask for ‘I would like to request all
information that Swansea council presented to the Welsh government in
order for them to suspend the right to buy’ in reply to my e-mail and
attached letter of 17 July asking for clarification or narrowing of its
scope. This was in light of my preliminary research assessment that your
original request would likely exceed the appropriate limit set out in the
Freedom of Information and Data Protection (Appropriate Limit and Fees)
Regulations 2004 to answer as posed.

We are, therefore, proceeding to supply the information requested in
answer to your refined request and with a deadline of 18 August 2017 in
mind.
