Lobbying for climate action & funding

The request was successful.

Climate Emergency UK

Dear Croydon Borough Council,

Please treat this as a Freedom of Information/Environmental Information Regulations request.

I would like information about your council’s lobbying work in relation to climate action for the Council Climate Action Scorecards.

In particular, please supply me with information relating to the following question:

Has the council written to or met with UK national or devolved governments to ask or lobby for climate action since 1st January 2019? Please provide some evidence of the most recent letter or meeting such as a copy of the letter or email sent, or the date, topic of meeting and position of the person that the meeting was held with.

This includes either asking for more powers and funding for local authorities to take climate action, or asking for the government to take further action themselves. This includes working with other local authorities to send joint letters or meetings to lobby UK or devolved governments, and includes both general climate action and calls for action on specific issues such as transport where climate change is mentioned as a motivating factor for taking action.

This includes if a cabinet member or other councillor has written to or met with the UK or devolved governments on behalf of the council.

I look forward to hearing from you in due course.
Yours faithfully,
Hannah Jewell, Climate Emergency UK

Dear Hannah Jewell

Request FOI/6807

Environmental Information Regulations 2004

Further to our response to you yesterday 13 February 2023, please find
below an amended response. This was due to an update we received from our
enquiries with the relevant services that we approached for this
information.

Your request has been considered under the provisions of the Environmental
Information Regulations 2004. Specifically, you have requested the
following information:

“I would like information about your council's lobbying work in relation
to climate action for the Council Climate Action Scorecards.

a motivating factor for taking action.

This includes if a cabinet member or other councillor has written to or
met with the UK or devolved governments on behalf of the council”.

This is a nil return for the Mayor and Cabinet member elected in 2022.

The Council regularly lobbies the UK Government for additional funding.
Most recently the Council has been engaged in detailed discussions
regarding a financial support package for the Council following the
issuing of a Section 114 notice in November 2022. No specific lobbying has
taken place related to Climate Action since May 2022 and the Council does
not hold copies of any lobbying correspondence by elected Members on
Climate action prior to this date. This is due to the change in political
Administration and the previous Cabinet Member responsible for Climate
Action standing down as a Councillor.

If you are dissatisfied with the way the council has handled your request
under the Environmental Information Regulations you may ask for an
internal review.  This should be submitted to us within 40 working days of
this response.  You can do this by outlining the details of your complaint
by:
