Lobbying for climate action & funding
Dear Rushcliffe Borough Council,
Please treat this as a Freedom of Information/Environmental Information Regulations request.
I would like information about your council’s lobbying work in relation to climate action for the Council Climate Action Scorecards.
In particular, please supply me with information relating to the following question:
Has the council written to or met with UK national or devolved governments to ask or lobby for climate action since 1st January 2019? Please provide some evidence of the most recent letter or meeting such as a copy of the letter or email sent, or the date, topic of meeting and position of the person that the meeting was held with.
This includes either asking for more powers and funding for local authorities to take climate action, or asking for the government to take further action themselves. This includes working with other local authorities to send joint letters or meetings to lobby UK or devolved governments, and includes both general climate action and calls for action on specific issues such as transport where climate change is mentioned as a motivating factor for taking action.
This includes if a cabinet member or other councillor has written to or met with the UK or devolved governments on behalf of the council.
I look forward to hearing from you in due course.
Yours faithfully,
Hannah Jewell, Climate Emergency UK

Good morning,
Thank you for your freedom of information request received on 16th
January, please see our response below and in the attached documents.
Has the council written to or met with UK national or devolved governments
to ask or lobby for climate action since 1st January 2019? Please provide
some evidence of the most recent letter or meeting such as a copy of the
letter or email sent, or the date, topic of meeting and position of the
person that the meeting was held with.
The Council influences national government by working with the Midlands
Net Zero Hub (MNZH) through strategic joint district and borough climate
change working groups led by Rushcliffe Borough Council’s CEO. The aim of
the meeting is to work in collaboration to identify funding opportunities,
shared lobbying which is fed back to BEIS via MNZH and also collaborate on
county wide bidding processes. There I also a large focus on managing the
devolution process and ensuring that both the Nottingham and Derbyshire
local authorities are in the best place for rollout of funding via the
D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership.
Regarding the second query, the Council has asked on two occasions for
more funding under the Local Authority Delivery 2 and potential
Sustainable Warmth Competition underspends. The feedback from these
schemes is again fed back to the MNZH who are administering a
collaborative bid for the Nottinghamshire Councils. Although we have
acknowledged that the funding amounts from BEIS are very limited in terms
of a realistic decarbonisation of the borough, we are still keen to
maximise the amount.
We are also very heavily involved in the Devo Deal and fully paid up in
terms of the development work:
