Dear Newcastle,

Can I please clarify that 1)iii and 1)iv is an untended duplication.

Please disregard 1)iv

Yours sincerely,

Mr Hemingway

Good afternoon Fred,

Thank you for your request for information dated 15/12/2017.

Given the limit of 18 hours’ search time set out in the FOI fees regulations will not be possible to collate the data that you have requested in that time. We must therefore refuse your request under section 12(1) of the FOI Act. If you would like to discuss this with me, please let me know.

If you are unhappy with the way we have handled your request you can ask for an internal review.
Details of how to do this can be found at:
http://www.ncl.ac.uk/foi/access/complain...

If you are not happy with the outcome of the internal review, you then have the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner's Office for a decision.

Dear Thomas Little,

I understand this is quite the undertaking. In your opinion, what might ease the burden of this task? If the number of years were abridged, say to the last 2 years only, do you think it would be administratively possible?

The purpose of my task is to provide useful information to applicants who can attempt to understand how their application might be processed by Newcastle. I am therefore quite eager to extract some useful information and if you could assist, that would be much appreciated by me and I am sure future applicants.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Hemingway

Hello,

Thank you for your email. Our records systems do not store applicants' or students' A Level results in a reportable format, so we cannot easily carry out this analysis. It would be a manual task of looking at individual applications. Therefore we would not be able to do this within the cost limits even for 1 year.

I can advise that you might be able to obtain some useful data from UCAS: https://www.ucas.com/corporate/data-and-.... If you discuss your needs with them, they will be able to advise what they would be able to supply.

Dear nrecman,

I would just like to clarify if the scope of my request was appreciated. It pertains to only LLB Law (M101), as it says in the thread title.

I made this request to several universities and the scope of my request was not picked up.

Would you be able to accept question 2 only in relation to the most recent year (2016/2017)?

Yours sincerely,

Mr Hemingway

Dear nrecman,

No reply was given to my last question. Could I remind you of its existence?

Yours sincerely,

Mr Hemingway

Dear Mr Hemingway

Please accept my apologies for the lack of reply. However, as my colleague Peter advises you below, our systems do not store applicant or student A Level results in a reportable format, and so responding to any part of your request would exceed the appropriate limit as defined by the Fees Regulations.

Yours sincerely,

Dear nrecman,

Would it be possible to make a complaint with Newcastle University in relation to how this decision has been made?

I find it difficult to accept the proposition that my abridged request would fall outside the appropriate limits, namely of £450 converted into 18 hours of labour. The abridged request, to reiterate, was (a) for the most recent academic year only and (b) for question 2 only (i.e. achieved A-Level grades on enrolment, for A-Level students who took 3 A-Levels).

It is understood that approx. 240 students will have enrolled in this time and the implication is that extracting a given student's A-Level grades would take more than 4 minutes and 30 seconds. Furthermore, a good number of these 240 students will not have completed A-Levels—or 3 A-Levels—and therefore would be excluded from the purview of the request. This should increase the time that could be spent retrieving the relevant students' information. In other words, it is likely the time available per relevant student would be higher than 4 minutes and 30 seconds.

I appreciate that rendering my request into percentages might add time to the request. I would have accepted the number of students of students on a particular set of grades in lieu of percentages. I also would not have objected to the raw data in a spreadsheet.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Hemingway

Dear Mr Hemingway
