Dear Mr. Fred Hemingway

I write on behalf of the University of Leicester in response to your request, dated 15th December 2017, made under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. Our response is as follows

LLB Law (M100) admission statistics

I would like to know the following about each admission cycle separately. First 2013/2014. Second 2014/2015. Third 2015/2016. Fourth 2016/2017.

Would it also be possible to indicate the percentage of applicants who fit into the three A-Level grouping and the percentage of successful applicants who fit into the three A-Level grouping?

Unfortunately, we are not able to provide the information requested.

It is not possible to pull out the top 3 grades relating to applicants & enrolled students without exceeding the appropriate limit of 18 hours established in section 12 of FOIA.

This is due to the following issues:

•Each grade is stored individually against the applicant, and the ‘best 3’ are not aggregated together at any point.

•We had vast amount of applications for LLB (M100)

2013/4: 2,696 applications
2014/5: 3,036 applications
2015/6: 3,101 applications
2016/7: 3,151 applications

•This would mean a manual job to work out the offer for each student.

•It is not easy to pick out those grades that have been used to create the offer
- For example, an offer may ignore some types of A-Levels or only be based on A-Levels from certain subjects
- In this case, it would be difficult to write a formula to pick out which are the top 3 grades relevant to the offer made

•Question 1
- Is not possible to provide information requested within the appropriate limit of 18 hours. Unfortunately, does not seem to be another way to get this data or similar.

•Question 2
- Is not possible to provide information requested within the appropriate limit according to issues expressed above. However, we were able to provide percentages enrolled by tariff score. Please find excel file attached.

•Question 3
- Is not possible to provide information requested within the appropriate limit due to the issues explained above. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be a way to get similar data to provide some information.

If you have any concerns or wish to complain or appeal about any aspect of this response then in the first instance please contact the University's Data Protection Officer (Mr Parmjit Gill: 0116 229 7946, [email address])

Please be aware that it is also your legal right under Section 50 of the Freedom of Information Act, to apply to the Information Commissioner for a decision whether a request for information made to the University has been dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the Act. It should be noted that there is a requirement that there will be no undue delay in making the application and there is an expectation that the complainant will have exhausted the University's internal complaints procedure.

Complaints to the Information Commissioner should be addressed to:

Dear Claudia,

Thank you for releasing the data set.

Would it be possible to
a) only complete the task for 2016/2017 and
b) only complete "best 3" by enrolment

If needs be, I would complete this as a new request. Unfortunately, the UCAS Tariff points system is too uncertain to give a meaningful insight into 3 A-Level applications.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Hemingway

Dear Mr Hemingway,

We will be happy to take your question as a new FOI request.

Can you please clarify - whether you would like to know the best 3 A-Levels of enrolled students to Law programmes in the 16-7 academic year? In case the answer is yes. We are able to provide this within the appropriate limit of 18 hours.

Please let me know if this is the information you require and I'll be happy to acknowledge your request.

Kind regards,
