Freedom of Information Enquiries,

Dear Mr/s Derwent

I refer to your request for information (email below) which the University
received on the 17th February 2011.

The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 paragraph 8(b) states that
a request must include the name of the applicant and an address for
correspondence. The Scottish Information Commissioner in his guidance has

"....confirmed that an e-mail address is sufficient when you are asking
for information. However, if you send your request by email, you must give
your name in the body of the email to fulfil the requirement that the name
of the applicant is given. Even if your name appears in your email address
(e.g. [email address]) you must add your name to the text of your
request, so that it is clear who the email is from.

You must give your real name, as the public authority does not have to
answer your request if you have used a false name or pseudonym. The
Commissioner will not be able to carry out an investigation if he finds
out that you have used a false name."

Hence as you have not provided your full name your request is an invalid
request under the terms of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002
(FOISA) paragraph 8(b). Once you have provided your full name the
University will be happy to process your request for information.

Yours sincerely

Dear Freedom of Information Enquiries,

As the guidance from the Information Commissioners Office states (http://www.ico.gov.uk/upload/documents/l... top of page 3), an initial used for the first name and an identifying surname is all that is required as per section 8 (1)(b) of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act.

As such I have complied with the act in full and await your response

Yours sincerely,

A. Derwent
