List of schools in UK

Deniz made this Freedom of Information request to Department for Education Automatic anti-spam measures are in place for this older request. Please let us know if a further response is expected or if you are having trouble responding.

The request was partially successful.

Dear Department for Education,

Under the Freedom of Information Act, could you please provide a current list of all the schools in the United Kingdom with the Name of the School, Status, Address, Contact Telephone Number, Number of Students, Headteacher, and Headteacher Email Address? If this could be provided in a .csv format, it would be greatly appreciated.

If the head teacher and/or head teacher's email address is unavailable. An alternative email address such as the school's office would be appreciated.

Could you also provide a separate list of all the administrators and their contact information (phone numbers and e-mail addresses) of all the academies in the UK?

Thank you.

Yours faithfully,
Deniz

Thank you for your request for information received on 28 November 2023.
You requested:

“Under the Freedom of Information Act, could you please provide a current
list of all the schools in the United Kingdom with the Name of the School,
Status, Address, Contact Telephone Number, Number of Students,
Headteacher, and Headteacher Email Address? If this could be provided in a
.csv  format, it would be greatly appreciated.

If the head teacher and/or head teacher's email address is unavailable. An
alternative email address such as the school's office would be
appreciated.

Could you also provide a separate list of all the administrators and their
contact information (phone numbers and e-mail addresses) of all the
academies in the UK?”

We have dealt with your request under the Freedom of Information Act
2000.

A csv file containing data from the Get Information about Schools (GIAS)
website as at 20 December 2023 is enclosed. The file contains a standard
extract of all educational establishments in England. GIAS does not hold
any information about academy administrators.

Currently we list FE and Sixth Form Corporations, Specialist Designated
Colleges and Special Post 16 Institutions.

We are withholding the email address of the head teacher under section
40(2) (personal data), personal data is that which relates to a living
individual who can be identified from that data, or from that data and
other information which is likely to be in, or to come into, the
possession of the requestor. Disclosure of this information would
contravene a number of the data protection principles in the General Data
Protection Regulations/Data Protection Act 2018 and would be regarded as
‘unfair’. By that, we mean the likely expectations of the data subject
that his or her information would not be disclosed to others and the
effect which disclosure would have on the data subject. Section 40(2) is
an absolute exemption and is not subject to the public interest test.

We have supplied you with the school email address where available.

Further information on the terms used within this extract can be found in
the GIAS glossary:  [1]www.get-information-schools.service.gov.uk/glossary

School level pupil numbers are available in the underlying data section of
the publication “Schools, pupils and their characteristics”; the current
edition can be found on the GOV.UK website here:
