List of Roads

The request was successful.

Dear Brighton and Hove City Council,

This request is being made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. I would like to request a list of roads and their classifications within your remit - including those that are generally not signposted - in addition to the standard M, A and B roads. These tend to go by the designations C, D or U, although the exact details vary by area and may differ from any or all of these. A map detailing these roads would be appreciated but is not necessary for you to fulfil your obligation.

Yours faithfully,

James Carter

Brighton and Hove City Council

This is an update regarding your request for information under the Freedom
of Information Act 2000, ref: FOI:4735/2015

We publish and maintain a list of streets on our website (also available
in person, if requested) to fulfil Section 36 (6) of the Highways Act 1980
here
http://www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/sites/br...
We also have a GIS map showing the outline of A, B, C roads here
http://ww3.brighton-hove.gov.uk/index.cf...
However we don’t store A, B, C Road classifications against road names in
the LSG, as they aren’t used along the whole road and are decided by the
Highways Agency and don’t represent the full streets, which is what we
use. I have attached a list of A, B, C Roads that are within Brighton &
Hove City Council.

Dear Ms. Kassamani,

Thank you for your prompt reply. However, I don't seem to be able to find the attachment listing A, B and C roads within the City council's remit. Could you possibly resend it? Preferably in PDF format.

Yours sincerely,

James Carter

Dear Ms. Kassamani,

Thank you very much. Unfortunately I have no idea what roads these route numbers each refer to - could I request that you provide some clarification please?

I'm attempting to compile a national database of sub-national routes, and given their nature route numbers are often repeated in different parts of the country. Therefore with only the route numbers themselves it is very difficult to compile everything.

Yours sincerely,

James Carter

The department have responded to say:

" We do not have the information requested. BHCC don't decide these classifications, they come from central government, who we believe already make the datasets available. "
