List of Reservoirs (with site information - energy usage/emissions)

Viren made this Environmental Information Regulations request to South East Water
You only have a right in law to access information about the environment from this authority

Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, South East Water should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Dear South East Water,

Please could I make a request for a list of all the water reservoirs that are under your ownership, with information on their primary purpose.

I would also request for additional information on each reservoir sites energy usage/emissions (e.g. if there was a water treatment works on pumping facility on site). This information can be provided in the form of estimated kWh/y and kg.CO2 respectively.

Yours faithfully,
Viren C. Patel

Dear Sir/Madam

Thank you for your request made pursuant to the Environmental Information Regulations 2004, which we received on 25 February 2020.

We are currently looking into your request and in order to determine whether we have the information you require, we need some clarification from you.

What kind of reservoir are you looking for information on? i.e. surface, covered, raw or treated?

We can provide information regarding the energy consumption of our reservoirs, would this be suitable?

What time period would you like this information to cover?

Once we have this information, we should be able to deal with your request and let you know the estimated amount of time it will take us to provide this information.

Should you have any questions, please get in touch.

Yours faithfully

Dear Eir Requests,

Many thanks for your reply.

To answer your questions, ideally I would like a list of all potable reservoirs in your jurisdiction and their associated annual energy consumption (and primary purpose), along with associated emissions (if available).

Yours sincerely,

Viren

Dear Eir Requests,

Many thanks for your reply.

To answer your questions:

What kind of reservoir are you looking for information on? i.e. surface, covered, raw or treated?
We would be looking at potable reservoirs.

We can provide information regarding the energy consumption of our reservoirs, would this be suitable?
Yes, preferably in kWh and also the source of this energy (i.e. grid electricity, or from a renewable asset)

What time period would you like this information to cover?
Please could it be an annualised figure, so a period covering 12 months.

Yours sincerely,

Viren

Evans, Sophie, South East Water

Dear Sir/Madam

Further to my email to you dated 31 March 2020, my colleague needs some
further information from you in order to determine the type of energy data
you require.

In relation to energy, do you mean the energy regarding pumping the water
in or out of the reservoir, and/or the energy used to treat the water
which is held by the reservoir?

Please can you confirm what the purpose of the data is? For example, would
the site energy of treatment works with reservoirs included suffice? Or
does it have to be a standalone reservoir which only has pumps in and out
and no treatment site attached, yet still pumps clean water?

Also, in terms of the annualised figure, how recent does this figure have
to be? We can provide data for April 2018-March 2019. Will this be
sufficient?

Once we have this information and your payment, we can collate this
information for you.

If there is anything else I can help you with, please let me know.

Yours sincerely

Sophie Evans

Dear Sophie,

Many thanks for your message.

To help assist your colleague, I can confirm that the energy consumption I am interested in can be both the energy used for pumping water in/out of the reservoir and the energy used for the treatment of reservoir water (if the point of treatment is in relative proximity).

The purpose of the data is to understand the scalability of floating solar as a power generation solution in the UK. Therefore it would be useful to understand the energy requirements of pumping/treatment works that operate in the vicinity of an owned water body asset (i.e the reservoir). So to answer your other question, the site energy of treatment works with reservoirs included should suffice.

Furthermore, data for the quoted period of April 2018 to March 2019 should be sufficient for my intentions.

Yours sincerely,

Viren
