List of Psychologists specialising in Autism

The request was successful.

Dear Mid Essex Primary Care Trust (PCT),

I would be grateful if you could tell me if there are any Child Psychologists in this PCT who specialise in Autism. Please could list any and the areas that they cover I have spoken to Child and Family Services and they have no knowledge of any within Essex.

I would also be grateful if you could let me know if there are any Speech and Language Therapists specialising in Autism in this PCT

Yours faithfully,

Alan Brazier

Dear Iain Gear,

Sorry to butt in to someone else's FOI request.

Autism is such a very particular thing, hard to understand, and far too often actually misunderstood, and children miss out on diagnosis, support - and parents and children even get blamed.

It is crucial that the "experts" and "professionals" that parents meet re: their children have TRUE expertise / precise understanding.

Re: Child Psychologists.
What does: "an understanding of the condition" actually mean? How well-qualified in autism are they?

Re: SALTs:
"Not specifically ASD trained ..... No one works solely in the field of ASD".
What is the percentage of children with autism seen by the SALTs?
If the percentage of children with autism seen is high, shouldn't some proper expertise in autism be brought in?

Are there any plans to employ autism / Asperger specialists in either of the areas inquired about? (Child Psychologists or SALTs.)

Please could you specify the qualifications that SALTs and Child Psychologists are required to have in order to work with children with autism in your PCT?

How does the PCT intend to improve this state of affairs?

Thank you very much,

Pat.
