Dear Privy Council,
Thank you for the information provided so far. Your response was both interesting and useful.

I note that the Cabinet is not included on the list and that no subcommittees have been listed. With this in mind please could you confirm that your previous response was complete.

In your email of 16 January, you wrote that my: "request has been treated as „normal business‟ as the information you request is in the public domain." You did not however say where (in the public domain) the information could be found. From my perspective, even if I could have found a list in the public domain, I would have no way of knowing if it was current and complete without asking.

Yours faithfully,

Mr Cross

Privy Council

Good morning Mr Cross

Dear Privy Council,
Thank you for your email. I was very pleased to learn that you are planning to publish the list that you provided to me on your website in the near future.

When I used the word "subcommittees" in my request I meant nothing more or less than the ordinary meaning of that word. For example, the Home Affairs Committee appears to be a subcommittee of the Cabinet which is a Privy Council committee. The Home Affairs Committee might therefore be considered a subcommittee of the Privy Council. Of course the Cabinet publishes a list of Cabinet Committees but there could be other Privy Council committees with subcommittees. I would have no way of knowing if there are any without asking the Privy Council.

Dear Ms Newell,
Thank you for your most recent correspondence. My original request was for a list of committees/subcommittees. I still do not believe you have provided a full answer to either of the two elements of my request.

(1) Committees: The list of committees you provided omitted the Cabinet so I asked you to confirm your previous list was complete. I now note that the list also omits the Board of Trade which I understand is also a committee of the Privy Council. Please can you confirm or deny whether you hold the names of any further committees.

(2) Subcommittees: You have not provided a list of subcommittees, Please can confirm or deny whether you hold the names of any subcommittees.

One point I would also make is that the law allows you to seek clarification of what a requester is asking but it does not allow you to impose your own definitions on the terms contained in the request. For example, if I have asked for a list of all committees you cannot simply provide a list of standing committees for which the Privy Council Office provides a secretariat.

Yours faithfully,

Mr Cross
