list of bus stops within North Yorks

The request was successful.

Dear North Yorkshire County Council,

Please may you provide a list of bus stops in North Yorkshire, which would include the following information (and any other useful information which is already included in any standard reports you may have on the subject). Excel would be my preferred format, but any okay really.

Bus stop number (eight digit)
Name (usually a road or place name)
Whether physical or unmarked
Whether currently in use or not
Whether a shelter is at the bus stop
Whether a kassel kerb is at the bus stop
(where the information is held) whether a timetable is provided
(if practicable) a list of the route number(s) that serve each stop.

Yours faithfully,

Alison Jones

Dear Ms Jones,

FOI REQUEST N5872 - LIST OF BUS STOPS WITHIN NORTH YORKS

Please find attached details of information held by North Yorkshire County
Council as requested in your Freedom of Information request.

Regarding bus shelters, the County only holds information on shelters
which are owned or maintained by us, therefore this list does not include
information for location of shelters owned by businesses, other
organisations, Parishes or District Councils.

The following formation has not been included:

Kassel Kerbs – The County has installed Kassel Kerbs at approx. 592 bus
stops through various schemes at different times. This does not include
installation as part of building development where Kassel Kerbs are often
installed by the developers as part of a planning agreement. Location
details for County installed Kassel Kerbs is not held centrally, and
collation of data will exceed 18 officer hours.

Bus Stop Timetable Displays – The County maintains bus timetable
information at approx. 150 bus stops in North Yorkshire, and provides
Operators with timetable cases to display information at stops at other
locations wherever practicable, but as a minimum, at all bus stations and
on routes of services in major towns and key inter-urban links. To
identify the location of all roadside displays will exceed 18 officer
hours.

List of the route number(s) that serve each stop and whether a stop is in
use – Collation of this information would require data system
interrogation and analysis for each of the 4684 stops, and will exceed 18
officer hours.

The large amount of work involved to complete the information requested
would bring the cost of answering the request over the amount to which we
are legally required to respond, ie the cost of locating and retrieving
the information exceeds the 'appropriate limit' as stated in the Freedom
Of Information (Fees and Appropriate Limit) Regulations 2004.  I enclose a
copy of our charging regime, and our appeals process.

I hope that the information I have been able to provide is of interest to
you.

Yours sincerely

Dear Chris,

Thank you for the excel file.

Yours sincerely,

Alison Jones

Dear Chris,

A couple of clarification requests if I may:

missing numbers - can I assume that these are bus stops which have been 'deleted' from your live system, due to no longer having a current bus service?

additions - presumably new stops are created, on a periodic basis. Do you circulate a list of these (example, on your website?) at all?

omissions - I know of around a dozen bus stops which don't appear in this list, and all are 'official' NY bus stops, many with Kassel kerbs. I realise that the scope of freedom of information only extends to information held by the public authority, but is there a way I can email your operational people to clarify?

Yours sincerely,

Alison Jones

Passenger Transport, North Yorkshire Council

Dear Miss Jones,

In answer to your clarification requests:

Yes, generally, you can assume the missing numbers represent bus stops
that have been deleted from the database, and yes we do request that stops
are added or deleted from time to time, but you should note that the
database is maintained centrally by the Department of Transport and not by
North Yorkshire County Council, so we do not circulate changes ourselves.

The Department for Transport say that the database is approx. 99% complete
nationally, if you are aware of any bus stops in North Yorkshire that are
not included, please let us know, and we will be happy to have them added
if appropriate.

If you require any further information or assistance regarding this
database please contact Landmark Information Group Ltd who manage the
database for the Department of Transport at [1][email address] or
ring on 0844 844 9958.

With regard Kassel Kerbs, I am unable to give further advice, other than
that detailed in our original response.

Yours sincerely
