Our Ref: IDA 262915

Thank you for your request made under the Freedom of Information Act. Because your request concerns environmental information we are handling it under the terms of the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR).

Our registered borehole records collection can be accessed using the Geoindex facility on our Website (please find a user guide attached). These records may contain details relating to the drillers although they vary in content depending on what was recorded/provided by the individual at the time http://www.bgs.ac.uk/GeoIndex/

In your request, you refer to a list of abstractors of groundwater needing a license. Please can you advise us where you obtained this list from, then we can see if we are able to assist you with your request further?

Under EIR we have 20 working days in which to respond to your request. Three days have elapsed but while we are waiting for your response to our request for clarification the clock is on hold. The remaining seventeen days will start counting from when we receive your response.

Dear Clayton, Lynsey N.,

This is the reply I had from yourselves a few months ago containing the list.
I now want to enquire if this list can be updated to include a name, address, postcode and contact details for the owner of the boreholes.

Dear Gillian,

Our ref: IDA 262915

Thank you for your response. The reply you have enclosed was not sent to you by the British Geological Survey (BGS), but by the Environment Agency therefore I suggest contacting the Environment Agency for any further information concerning the list. If BGS holds records for any of the boreholes in your list they will be freely available on the GeoIndex, the details of which are in our previous email to you. We do not hold the details you request in any other database.

If you feel we have failed to comply with your request in accordance with the requirements of the Regulations, you have the right to ask for an internal review (Regulation 11). Internal review requests should be submitted in writing within 40 working days after the date on which you believe we failed to comply with the requirements – normally the date of receipt of our response to your request. This should be addressed to The Complaints Officer at NERC, Polaris House, North Star Avenue, Swindon, Wilts SN2 1EU. There is no charge for this review.

Please remember to quote the reference number above in any future communications.
