Dear Surrey County Council,

An extension to an earlier request in which the link is now broken.

I would like to make a request under the Freedom of Information act for data held on Library usage within the borough, covering a timespan from 2006-2011 as in the recent CIPFA releases.

I would like to see your responses to the CIPFA questionnaire.

Secondly, I am aware that the usage of a library is much more than just issues alone and the CIPFA data does not cover a number of these issues. Specifically I would like to see the data held by the borough on the foot fall of libraries and the numbers of new joiners across the above years.

I would also like data on usage for other means such as study, referencing, reading/childrens groups, computer usage etc over the last 12 months.

If possible, income from computer usage, including printing, and admin e.g. photocopying, faxing etc.

I would also like the data held about events and presentations held at each library within the borough and what the attendance figures for these events were over the last 12 months.

Yours faithfully,

Kathryn Darwin

Gillian Youngman, Surrey County Council

Dear Ms Darwin,

Your Freedom of Information Request for has been passed to me. In order
for me to answer it, please can you clarify the following:

o What do you mean by “Library usage within the borough” as Surrey is a
county made up of 11 boroughs and over 50 libraries?
o When you say “foot fall of libraries and the numbers of new joiners
across the above years” again what do you mean by borough and how are
you defining a year ie January to December, April to March or the past
12 months from now?
o What do you mean by “study, referencing, reading/childrens groups" -
do you mean information enquiry statistics, number of or attendance at
reading groups over the last 12 months” and again which 12 months are
you referring to?
o With regards events, there are many events held throughout the library
service. We can easily provide details of a number of events but there
are others held locally with the number of attendances not always
recorded and a listing would take a lot longer to compile. Please
clarify if you need all events of any kind or only the ones we can
easily provide information on and again what do you mean by borough
and which 12 month period?

Thank you

Yours sincerely

Dear Gillian Youngman,
With regards to your questions:

Apologies, I mean Surrey as a whole, though if you have access to only those in Surrey CC these will suffice. The data I require should fit in with responses to the CIPFA questionnaire; yearly figures from 2006-07 to 2010-11. I believe these define a year to be April-March. This covers all of my requests.

By “study, referencing, reading/childrens groups" I mean information enquiry statistics, and attendance at reading groups over the same periods as above. If some years are unavailable, those that are will suffice.

With regards to events, any events that information is easily accessible will suit.

Yours sincerely,

Kathryn Darwin
