Library fines

Jack Forks made this Freedom of Information request to Glasgow Caledonian University

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

I am conducting a research product in order to ascertain the total number of Library fines that were paid at universities in the UK.

I am therefore writing to ask about library fines during the academic year 2016/2017, under the Freedom of Information Act. For the time period starting from the first day of term, covering the next 364 days (e.g. one full year), please provide:

1. The total amount of money the library received from the payment of overdue items. Exclude costs of replacing lost books if possible – this request solely relates to the cost of items that are returned later than their due date.

Many thanks, and do let me know if you require any further clarification

Yours faithfully,

Jack Forks

Dear Mr Forks

I refer to your request for information.

The recorded figure for library fines for 2016/17 is £23,090.68 (including the cost of replacing lost books).

Unlike the figure supplied to you earlier in the year for 2015/16, we are unable to exclude the cost of replacing lost books from the 2016/17 figures as we have migrated to a new system of recording and no longer hold a breakdown for 2016/17. For any similar future request for 2017/18 the system should hold this breakdown.

Please find attached a review notice setting out the steps you may take if you are not satisfied with the response provided to your request.

If there are any questions in relation to this request, please contact the University at [Glasgow Caledonian University request email].

Yours sincerely
Jean Ash
