Library fines

The request was successful.

I am conducting a research product in order to ascertain the total number of Library fines that were paid at universities in the UK.

I am therefore writing to ask about library fines during the academic year 2016/2017, under the Freedom of Information Act. For the time period starting from the first day of term, covering the next 364 days (e.g. one full year), please provide:

1. The total amount of money the library received from the payment of overdue items. Exclude costs of replacing lost books if possible – this request solely relates to the cost of items that are returned later than their due date.

Many thanks, and do let me know if you require any further clarification

Yours faithfully,

Dear Jack,

Request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000

Following your request for information on 31 October 2017 regarding
library fines, here is the response of the University of Hertfordshire. I
have included your questions for reference:

1. The total amount of money the library received from the payment of
overdue items. Exclude costs of replacing lost books if possible – this
request solely relates to the cost of items that are returned later than
their due date.

For period  26/09/2016 – 25/09/2017– payment received for overdue items -
£5304.

The University has a policy of automatic renewals of library items, unless
a requested item is not returned. When the requested items is not returned
by the due date a fine is only then incurred.

I trust that this sufficiently answers your information request. If you
have any queries about the above, please get back to me.

Should you wish to appeal about the way your request was handled please
email [1][University of Hertfordshire request email] or write to me at the address below.
Alternatively you can contact the Information Commissioner
at [2]https://ico.org.uk/concerns or write to: FOI/EIR Complaints
Resolution, Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane,

Kind regards
