Library Books

The request was partially successful.

Dear Enfield Library Service
I have recently visited a number of libraries and cannot help but wonder about some of the facts and figures with regards to the number of books you hold. In this regard I am writing via this useful web site so that such facts and figures can be made publicly available for those such as myself who have wondered about these things. I would very much appreciate answers to the following questions:
1. How many books the library service has purchased since its inception.
2. How many books were purchased for each year over the past ten years.
3. How many books are stocked in each library in the Borough - I would specifically like to know how stock levels have reduced so please provide total stock levels for each of the last five years for each library.
4. How much money has been spent on library stock for the past five years broken down per library branch.
5. How many books have been disposed of per library branch for each of the last five years.
6. How much stock has been sold to the public per library branch for each of the last five years.
7. How much stock has been thrown out per library branch for each of the last five years.
8.What systems are in place to ensure that only old stock is disposed?
9. How many un-issued books have been disposed and such been a waste of Council tax payers money?

With plans to hand over libraries to volunteer groups as per the library consultation can you please provide details of how stock will be managed in volunteer run libraries:
1. How will stock be transferred from the Council to volunteer groups?
2. Will the cost of stock be considered and volunteer groups asked to purchase the stock?
3. Who will be responsible for the purchase of new stock?
4. What will happen when Council stock is returned to volunteer libraries?
5. Will library fines at volunteer libraries be the same as Council libraries and who will retain the money raised from such fines?
6. With debt recovery in mind will volunteers be given powers to prevent library users borrowing items whilst money is still owed?
7. Will volunteer libraries have access to the same library database and hence access to library user details as Council libraries?
8. What data protection training will volunteers have to undertake so that the Council can be satisfied that volunteers are able to follow data protection principles?
9. Who will be responsible for the protection of library user details in volunteer libraries?

I very much look forward to the receipt of the information I have requested and to see how the "new look" of libraries will back-fire on the Council in the long run.
