Dear Scottish Borders Council,

(1) Please could you indicate the number of homophobic incidents targeted at pupils, reported in each of your schools (listed individually by name and number) that were reported in the 2016 - 2017 academic year?

(2) Please could you indicate the number of homophobic incidents targeted at staff, reported in each of your schools (listed individually by name and number) that were reported in the 2016 - 2017 academic year?

(3) Please indicate which of your schools have received staff training on dealing with LGBT issues and from whom (e.g. from a specific external organisation or the council).

(4) Please list which schools have either achieved Bronze, Silver or Gold, or are registered with LGBT Youth Scotland's School Charter Mark.

(5) For clarity and to put the above into perspective, please indicate the total number of schools in your council.

Dear Mr Davidson

Further to your request for information under the Freedom of Information
(Scotland) Act 2002 relating to the above I am now able to respond.

 

The following response was prepared and provided on behalf of Children &
Young People:

 

(1) Please could you indicate the number of homophobic incidents targeted
at pupils, reported in each of your schools (listed individually by name
and number) that were reported in the 2016 - 2017 academic year?

(2) Please could you indicate the number of homophobic incidents targeted
at staff, reported in each of your schools (listed individually by name
and number) that were reported in the 2016 - 2017 academic year?

For questions 1 & 2, Scottish Borders Council has considered your request
and concluded that the cost of complying with it would be more than £600. 
Under S12 (1) of FOISA Scottish Borders Council is not obliged to comply
with a request that is estimated to exceed this cost.

 

The estimated cost of dealing with your request is detailed below:

Therefore Scottish Borders Council is refusing your request.

 

(3) Please indicate which of your schools have received staff training on
dealing with LGBT issues and from whom (e.g. from a specific external
organisation or the council).

 

All secondary staff have done mandatory training on equalities.   LGBT
Scotland have utilised local groups to provide training.

 

(4) Please list which schools have either achieved Bronze, Silver or Gold,
or are registered with LGBT Youth Scotland's School Charter Mark.

 

All 9 secondary schools are aiming for bronze standard from next session.

 

(5) For clarity and to put the above into perspective, please indicate the
total number of schools in your council.
