LGA Press Release

Worthing Borough Council did not have the information requested.

Dear Worthing Borough Council,

Worthing Council was recently mentioned in a list of strange requests issued by the LGA in an attempt to discredit the FOI process. The Worthing request was about asteroid strikes and other cosmological phenomena. I would like to request the following information about the Council's involvement.

Did officers working for the council search for any information,
given the extremely unlikely nature of the proposition in the FOI
request?

Did Worthing Council approach the LGA about the asteroid FOI request or
was the Council approached by the LGA? If the LGA used the Worthing
request without consulting the council, please confirm this.

I would like to request copies of correspondence between the
Council and the LGA about the asteroid request and how it would be
used.

I would like to request copies of any correspondence received by
Worthing Council from the LGA on the subject of FOI generally in the
last 12 months. Please limit any search to Chief Executive’s team,
the Public Relations Team, and those staff dealing with FOI
requests.

Yours faithfully,

Tony Parker

Information.officer, Worthing Borough Council

Dear Information.officer,

I would like to query two elements of your response. Firstly, you did not answer one of the elements - I asked whether officers actually searched for the requested information.

Secondly, you state that you hold no correspondence on the subject of FOI with the LGA - given that that LGA has solicited information about FOI requests in the past, can you confirm that a thorough search of areas relevant to my request has been carried out across the areas that I identified?

Yours sincerely,

Tony Parker

Information.officer, Worthing Borough Council

Dear Mr Parker,

Thank you for your e-mail.

There is no written record of what enquires the Council made back in March 2013 to answer the FOI request regarding unusual emergency events. I recall at time that enquires were made to the Council's emergency officer. The outcome of which was that the Council's emergency plans does not cover asteroid attacks per sa, but does cover fire and bomb attacks.

I confirm that the Council does not hold any correspondence with the LGA regarding the ‘asteroid attack’ FOI request or on the subject of FOI.

I trust this reply answers your queries.

Yours sincerely,

Barbara McGrath
