Dear London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority (London Fire Brigade),

Please may you provide me with the London Fire Brigade's strategy when it comes to the vehicle fleet. I understand you are currently in the process of replacing the Pumps and Pump Ladders with new Mercedes Atego's by EmergencyOne and Babcock.

However, i ask if a strategic replacement plan has been put in place for appliances such as Aerial Ladder Platforms/Turntable Ladders, Fire Rescue Units etc, in the future. If so, are you able to confirm the proposed vehicle and coachbuilder of the appliance, at this current stage. Also, an estimated time of when the rollout will be complete.

Yours faithfully,

[Name Removed] [Name Removed].

Dear London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority (London Fire Brigade),

Additionally, are you also able to confirm an estimated or exact time Kentish Town's (A43) new pumping appliance will be delivered?

Yours faithfully,

London Fire Commissioner (London Fire Brigade)

Hi [Name Removed],

Thank you for your request, dated 31 May 2017 regarding the London Fire Brigade's (LFB) strategic fleet replacement plan.

The LFB operates a pre-planned life for all its fleet items as follows:

Cars - five years.
Light commercials vehicles - seven years.
Medium commercial vehicles 10 years.
Fire engines - 12 years.
and heavy commercial vehicles - 15 years.

With this policy we have a long term schedule for all fleet replacements. However this may vary if/when critical operational requirements change within the life of a type of vehicle or statutory events demand. For example London’s introduction of an Ultra Low Emissions Zone for which many of our vehicles are non-compliant is necessitating early replacement of some vehicle and exhaust after treatment for others. The associated decisions are based on whole life costs and value for money.

Additionally, Kentish Town appliances are currently scheduled for replacement in the fourth quarter of 2017. Please note, this should only be used as a guide and may be subject to change.

I hope you find the information provided useful. If you have any further questions please let me know.

Your request has been dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA). If you are dissatisfied by this response you can request an internal review by writing to the Head of Information Management and Performance at the address below (or email [email address]).

Further information about your information rights (including how to raise a concern or make a complaint) is available from the Information Commissioner’s Office on their website at www.ico.org.uk or by writing to them at Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF.

Kind Regards,

James Sivell
