Less than full time eligibility by gender.

The request was refused by Health Education North West.

Dear Health Education North West,

Please can you inform me of how many doctors-in-training have made a request for work less than full time-training( LTFT)? Please can you tell me how many of these requests were successful. Please can you give a break down of this data by gender.

i.e. how many males requested LTFT and how many were approved? how many females requested LTFT and how many were approved?

Finally can you give the total number of doctors-in-training of each gender for whom you are responsible?

Yours faithfully,
Michael Dromey

Dear Michael,

We refer to your email of 14/06/2018 in respect of obtaining information
relating to less than full-time training (LTFT) held by Health Education
England (HEE) North West.

HEE can confirm in accordance with S.1 (1) of the Freedom of Information
Act 2000 (FOIA) that we do hold some of the information that you have
requested.

Response

Please see response in bold below:

 1. Please can you inform me of how many doctors-in-training have made a
request for work less than full time-training( LTFT)?

 2. Please can you tell me how many of these requests were successful.

 3. Please can you give a breakdown of this data by gender. i.e. how many
males requested LTFT and how many were approved? how many females
requested LTFT and how many were approved?

For questions 1,2 and 3 HEE is unable to provide this information as we
consider it would take this request above and beyond the time/cost limit
outlined for such requests.  Regretfully, locating and collating the
information required that HEE might hold from 2013 to present would take
us over the time limit for such requests. For your information, Section 12
of the FOIA outlines this as 18 hours of staff time.

We should explain that locating and collating this historic data across
our system would involve a report being pulled for data as of each day for
the last five years, some of which would involve manual searching by staff
members across the organisation.

However, to help and assist where possible, we have pulled a report as of
28/06/2018 which shows there were 746 trainees currently training LTFT. We
can also confirm a manual search has taken place which identified 1 male
and 1 female having applications rejected from 2013 to present. Please
note however that this may not be the total number of rejections, given
the search limitations detailed above. We have answered to the best of our
ability in the timeframe available.

 4. Finally can you give the total number of doctors-in-training of each
gender for whom you are responsible (HEE NW)?

As at 28/06/18 the numbers were as follows: Female: 3062; Male: 2946; Not
specified: 12.

We apologise we were not able to answer your request in full.

We hope that this information is of use.  If you are dissatisfied with the
way in which we have dealt with your request you can ask us to review our
decision by writing to:-
