Legionnaires' Disease Infection from Domestic Hot Water Supplies

The request was successful.

Dear NHS National Services Scotland,

I believe that the following request should be dealt with by Health Protection Scotland.

Please let me have the number of reported cases of Legionnaires' Disease in Scotland in 2009, 2010 and 2011:

[a] The total number of cases resulting from all sources of
infection.

Also, if this can be done conveniently, it would be useful to have these totals broken down as to where the infection is recorded as having been acquired:
- In the community.
- As nosocomial infection.
- During travel abroad.
- During travel in the UK.

[b] The number of cases where the infection was specifically
determined to have been contracted from domestic hot water supplies in Scotland.

(Please let me emphasise that I want the numbers resulting from *domestic* hot water supplies - not hot water supplies in hospitals, factories, hotels and so on.)

For these cases, please indicate how many of them were confirmed by microbiological testing ie where testing showed that the organism found in the hot water system was indistinguishable from the infecting clinical strain.

Yours faithfully,

M. Ackroyd
