Legible London sign location

Frankie Roberto made this Freedom of Information request to Transport for London

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was partially successful.

Dear Transport for London,

Happy 10 year anniversary to the Legible London scheme!

I'm interested in how the scheme is developed, and would like to request a list of the locations and types of Legible London signs that are currently installed (or planned to be installed).

Preferably this would be in Excel or CSV format, and would include GPS coordinates, as well as any details available like street name, the type of sign (fingerpost, monolith, minilith, etc), the Village & Neighbourhood names (e.g. "Bloomsbury" / "Byng Place"), and the name of any organisation who sponsored or co-sponsored the installation.

If you do not hold complete information, I would be happy to receive any information you do currently have, even if only partial.

Yours faithfully,

Frankie Roberto

Dear Frankie Roberto

Our ref: FOI-2998-1718/GH

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 19
January 2018 asking for information about Legible London sign location.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. Unfortunately we
do not hold the information you require.

We do not hold a central register showing all the Legible London signs and
the additional information you have requested. Therefore to answer your
request we would need to carry out a detailed audit which would be at
considerable expense to TfL, and we are not obliged to answer your
question if it would require the creation of new information.

I am sorry that we are unable to assist you on this occasion.

If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached
information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely

Dear Graham Hurt,

Thank you for your reply.

I find it hard to believe that TfL does not hold any information about the Legible London signs, given that it is a TfL project, and your webpage suggests there are "more than 1,700 signs" (https://tfl.gov.uk/info-for/boroughs/leg... ).

Could you please advise what information you DO hold on the signs, as a partial response would be acceptable.

If the information is held on behalf of TfL by a third party (such as T-Kartor – http://www.t-kartor.com – who I believe do some of the design work for the signs), then I understand that this is still within scope of the FOI Act.

Many thanks,

Frankie Roberto

FOI, Transport for London

Dear Frankie Roberto

Please accept my apologies for the delay in providing a response to your internal review. We are currently experiencing a significantly high volume of FOI requests whilst simultaneously recruiting for a replacement member of staff. As a small team these changes will have a short term impact and we are endeavouring to respond to any outstanding internal review appeals as soon as possible.

I greatly appreciate your patience in this matter.

Following a review of their records, the business area have been able to
provide the table below which gives a summary of the number of signs that
we are aware of within each London Borough. However this is not an
exhaustive list and as there is no central database of these records we
are unable to verify the accuracy of the values given below.
