Dear Fife Council,

Does the public drinking ban that is effective in St Andrews extend to include the beaches in St Andrews ?

There is some controversy on this matter, with some sources stating that open drink containers are illegal in all public places, excluding the beaches (1), and other sources implying that this ban extends to the beaches (2).

What is the exact wording of the by-law .forbidding open drinks containers in St. Andrews?

I refer to your information request, as detailed below,  dated and

I have detailed below the information you requested and trust that it
meets your requirements.

Does the public drinking ban that is effective in St Andrews extend to
include the beaches in St Andrews ?

I have attached a Plan relating to St Andrews which shows that the beaches
are excluded from the area affected by the alcohol ban.
What is the exact wording of the by-law forbidding open drinks containers
in St. Andrews?

I have attached a copy of the byelaw for your information.  The byelaws
were made and confirmed in 1997 and were amended in 2008 to extend to
cover, not only consumption of alcohol, but also to be found in possession
of an open container containing alcohol in a public place.
